Heart Health
What Is Heart?
The heart can be defined as a muscular organ responsible for pumping the blood through blood vessels of a circulatory system. Blood is essential in providing a human body with a sufficient amount of nutrients, oxygen, and to remove metabolic waste.
The heart is situated amongst the lungs in the middle portion of the chest cavity. In mammals, birds and all human beings, the heart is divided into four chambers. These chambers are upper left and right atria and lower left and right ventricles. Commonly, right atrium and ventricles are together called as the right heart while left atrium and ventricles are collectively termed as the left heart.

What Does Heart Do?
The heart is a muscle that functions to pump the blood throughout the body organs. The heart is made from particular types of muscles that can never be fatigued.
Every beat of the heart is considered as a prompt series of two simultaneous contractions. The first contraction is in atria, i.e., the upper chambers and the second contraction is in the ventricles, i.e. the lower chambers. The right has a high amount of waste material (carbon dioxide) in it.
This blood is pumped into the lungs. Once the blood is purified, the left side of the heart collects it (containing fresh oxygen) and circulates it to different organs of the body through small and smaller blood vessels.

Functions of Heart
Due to the presence of complicated pathways of arteries, capillaries, and veins, the heart can keep pumping life through your body. Some of the main functions of the heart are:

  • A heart can transport oxygen, nutrients, and hormones to the cells present in the body.
  • It can remove metabolic waste products from the body, such as nitrogenous water and carbon dioxide.
  • A heart can protect the body through antibodies and white blood cells along with some complement proteins that circulate in the body by vessels and provide defense against toxins and foreign viruses and bacteria.
  • A heart can protect the body from blood loss after a severe injury.
  • It can regulate your body temperature, the water content of body cells/tissues, and fluid PH as well.
  • A heart can protect the body against infections.
  • It can provide energy to deliver nutrients such as glucose and carbohydrates from the digestive tract to muscles and organs.
  • The heart can transport chemical messengers from endocrine glands to the targeted organs.
  • The heart can ensure efficient and sufficient movement of electrolytes in the body cells.

How Is Heart Health Important?
If you are still very young, you might think you have many years to spare until it is finally time to start wondering about heart conditions. However, heart health demands your attention despite the age factor.
Heart conditions and diseases should never be ignored as it can strike both old and young individuals. Chronic heart conditions are the most significant cause of death among people in developed countries. The symptoms of heart disease can start to appear at almost any age.
Even though women are not inclined to have a heart attack until they are at least 70 years old, but many women in their early 20s are dying due to heart-related disorders as compared to breast cancer — the rate of occurrence of a heart attack among young females aged 35 to 54 has increased in the last ten years.
For men, the average age for developing a heart condition is 60, but like many women, they can still be a victim of heart attack or any other chronic illness even when they are in their 30s or 40s.
Heart health is vital, due to which doctors recommend regular heart screening, especially for people who are at an elevated risk of heart conditions (age, family history, and genetics).

How to Improve Heart Health
For many people, bringing out drastic changes in lifestyle is the only thing to avoid developing a heart problem. These are some steps to improve heart health naturally:
